WAYNESVILLE
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Mission
Statement:
To
promote quality recreation opportunities for all citizens of the
greater Waynesville area by providing indoor and outdoor facilities
and activities and to be a resource for those who seek to improve
their quality of life through recreation.
History
of the Department:
What
began in 1956 as the Waynesville Recreation Development Commission,
became a line department under the Town of Waynesville in 1975.
In 1984, an old town Armory was remodeled and the Town had it's
first Recreation Center. On December 18, 2000, the new Waynesville
Recreation Center was officially opened. Today, the Waynesville
Parks and Recreation Department manages five parks, six tennis courts,
over 55 acres of land and two Recreation Centers.
