Old Armory Recreation Center 44 Boundary Street Waynesville, NC 28786 (828) 456-9207 Fax: (828) 456-4470 Hours of Operation Monday - Saturday, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Serving as a recreation facility since 1985, the Old Armory Recreation Center provides quality recreation programs for all ages. Built in 1936, the facility served as a National Guard Armory until renovations in 1985 were made to add a cafeteria, two classrooms and an upstairs fitness wing. The center provides some recreation opportunities at no cost that include open-play basketball, a 1/20 - mile indoor walking track and a senior adult weight room. Other activites that require a nominal monthly fee include karate, judo, art class, youth theater, dance class, clogging, square dance and bridge. The Armory out-sources some of its space to Mountain Projects as a Senior Nutrition Center. The faciltiy is available for rental for group meetings, birthday, graduation and anniversary parties.
